Mr. Harry Thomas Colson, age 89 of Paducah, KY passed away Monday, April 15, 2013, at 9:30 p.m. at the Superior Care Home in Paducah, Kentucky.
Born Friday, January 18, 1924 in Palma, Kentucky, he retired after 28 years of service as an Electrician with the Tennessee Valley Authority.
He was instrumental in developing outreach and prison ministries throughout Western Kentucky. He also served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II. During his service, he served three years aboard the battleship U.S.S. Missouri and was serving aboard the ship on September 2, 1945 in Tokyo Bay when the Instrument of Surrender was signed by the Allied officers and the Japanese foreign minister formerly ending World War II.
Surviving are his wife, Clara Geraldine "Jean" (Owen) Colson of Paducah, KY., three daughters, Elizabeth Jean McDermott, husband Tom of Sanibel, FL, Cynthia Kay Ward, husband Joe of Smithland, KY and Virginia Sue Connor, husband Leon of Santa Fe, TX, one sister, Ruby L. Cope of Augusta, GA.
Eleven grandchildren, Rhonda Pecenka of Cape Coral, FL., T.J. McDermott of Durham, NC., Kelley McDermott of Durham, NC., Monica Eppler of Cape Coral, FL., Sherry Morris of Benton, KY., Patrick Connor of Pearland, TX., Susan Walker of Paducah, KY., Jeffery McDermott of Sanibel, FL., Todd Connor of Irving, TX., Brian Connor of Lexington, KY., Mark Connor of Santa Fe, TX..
Fourteen great-grandchildren, Kelsey and Allie Pecenka of Cape Coral, FL., Thomas and Grace McDermott of Durham, NC., Hannah and Shawn Eppler of Cape Coral, FL., Kayla Mikolaitis of Benton, KY., Kevin Morris of Benton, KY., Zack Morris of Benton, KY., Cole and Aubrey Connor of Pearland, TX., Chelsea and Allie Walker of Paducah, KY., Jacob Connor of Irving, TX., and three great great-grandchildren, Ayden and Hayden Mikolaitis of Benton, KY., and Kamden Morris of Benton, KY., also survive.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Kelzie and Ethel (Fergerson) Colson, one great-granddaughter, Nora Fred Connor, one brother and one sister, Katherine Stringer.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 20, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. in the chapel of the Collier Funeral Home in Benton, KY, Josh Bieth officiating. Interment with military honors are to follow the service in the Wilson Cemetery, Benton, KY.
The family will receive friends from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM on Saturday, April 20, 2013, at Collier Funeral Home in Benton, KY.
