Air Force

Mr. Gary Leo Smith, age 68 of Sharpe, Kentucky passed away Wednesday, March 6, 2013, at 12:45 a.m. at the Murray-Calloway Co. Hospital in Murray, Kentucky.

Born Sunday, June 25, 1944 in West Frankfort, Illinois, he was the son of the late Leo H. Smith and Betty (Darnell) Smith of Paducah, KY. He was a graduate of Paducah Tilghman High School, he retired after 31 years of service with the TVA Shawnee Steam Plant. He enjoyed his family, his grandchildren, wood working, reading, feeding the birds and cooking. He honorably served his country in the United States Air Force while stationed at the Elmendorf Air Force Base in Alaska. He was a member of Sharpe Baptist Church.

Surviving are his wife of 44 years, Joette (Bradley) Smith of Sharpe, KY., one son, Derrald Anthony "Tony" Smith, wife Kim of Stanton, KY, two sisters, Brenda Wooley, husband Charles of Paducah, KY and Sondra Pax, husband John of Jacksonville, FL.

Two grandchildren, Megan Smith and Ethan Smith, both of Stanton, KY., mother-in-law, Lucille (English) Bradley of Reidland, KY., brother-in-law, Stephen Joe Bradley of Reidland, KY., several aunts, uncle, cousins, nieces and nephews also survive.

He was preceded in death by his father, one brother, Jerry D. Smith.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, March 10, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of the Collier Funeral Home in Benton, Kentucky, with the Rev. Chris Moore officiating. Interment with military honors are to follow the service in the Provine Cemetery, Benton, KY.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Saturday, March 9, 2013, at Collier Funeral Home, 211 West 5th, Benton, Kentucky.

The family asks that memorial contributions be made to the Provine Cemetery Fund, David Culp, 115 Al York Rd., Benton, KY 42025.
